Work Process

Concept

Rather than reproducing paper-cutting as a material craft, the project extracts the deeper structural logic of the tradition: its symmetry, negative space, symbolic motifs, and compositional order, then rebuilds that logic for a screen-based, motion-driven visual culture.

The Seven Motifs

Seven core motifs from Weixian paper-cutting form the symbolic and visual foundation: the butterfly, swallow, carp, dragon, flower, sun, and moon.

Tangram Deconstruction

Each motif is atomized through a Tangram-based framework of seven fundamental geometric units. Tangram is used not as a decorative symbol but as a structural method that reorganizes complex folk forms into modular graphic components, which can then animate through rhythm, transformation, and spatial suggestion.

Visual System · Dreamcore

Flat graphics, modular construction, and motion transformation are carried by a soft dreamcore atmosphere, produced across After Effects, Cavalry, and Cinema 4D. The outcome shows that folk imagery can move into digital media without being reduced to surface decoration.

Motion Details

Close studies from the film: motif tiles, symmetry, and transformation across the seven-motif system, held in the dreamcore palette.
